Want to know something about a day in the life of a physics grad student? After struggling with a problem a while, my friend Hugh decided that it was time to go to the blackboard. Then 3 grad students, 1 entire blackboard, and at least an hour and a half later, we emerged victorious with the answer.
We considered handing in this photo as our solution, but after figuring that it would take more time to grab my camera and print this out, we all just copied it down onto paper…
then I decided to grab my camera anyway
I finished watching Bowling for Columbine this weekend. While I must admit that I did find this moving entertaining, I really did not care for this movie at all. Michael Moore was extremely sloppy in his arguments. First he wanted to say that Americans have too many guns, then he goes to Canada and says, “wait, they have a lot of guns too and they don’t kill each other”. Then he brings two kids from Columbine into K-Mart headquarters and demands that they stop selling bullets in their stores. What’s it going to be, Mr. Moore? Guns are the problem or guns aren’t the problem?
Moore does make an interesting point (along with Marilyn Manson) regarding the news media and promoting a culture of fear. But I really have a hard time believing that TV is the only problem.
And why does Moore pick on Lockheed-Martin? His conspiracy theory claim about Lockheed promoting a culture of fear to sell more bombs and airplanes is absolutely ridiculous.
I think I’ll be avoiding Moore documentarys from now on unless I hear that he makes something particularly amusing.
My addiction to World of Warcraft has entered a new phase. I no longer have the need to be “on” for quite so many hours. Instead, I now sit around and scheme ways to make money by researching drops and trade skills on thottbot. BTW, my hunter Kires is on the backburner. I’ve mostly permanently switched to the Draenor realm because of the support I get from the guild that Sunil brought me into. So, look for a level 32 priest named Geros.
Also, I introduced John to WoW when I was home over spring break. Despite starting two weeks after me, by the time I returned from Rome John had already passed my level… and I thought I played too much!
